Deuteronomy 30:19-20a NASB
I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have placed before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding close to Him….
The Lord asks you to choose life over death, the blessing over the curse, so that you may live.
Choosing life is a daily practice. How do you choose life? Scripture says it is by loving the Lord, obeying His voice, and holding close to Him.
Loving the Lord is an act of faith and trust. Choose to love Him. Say it out loud when you are alone. Make a list of the blessings around you. See the day that He has made. Rejoice in that day! Consider His mercies and grace. Praise Him and give Him thanks.
To choose life, the Lord asks you to obey His voice. What is His voice? Begin with the words in scripture. Read the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Ponder the recorded words of Christ. Obey the voice of God as it is written. Then, expand your understanding of His voice through prayer.
Finally, hold close to the Lord. Be firm in your faith, unmovable. In a corrupt and dying world, it is a miracle that anyone chooses life. You are a miracle! You have chosen life. You have chosen to love the Lord and to obey His voice. Hold fast to that miracle. Don’t let go of your love for Him, His word, or His way.
