Be Free: Forgiving God

Things rarely work out the way we want them to. Bad stuff happens, and disappointment, hurt, grief, anger, and offense build up. It is easy to blame God, rail against God, or even stop talking to Him.

God does not author evil. God also does not abandon us in our hurt. In the book of Job, Job lost all of his children and wealth, and his wife was pretty awful to him. Yet, God did not leave Job or forsake him. We serve a God of redemption and restoration. God never explained why Job walked through so much tragedy and pain. God was there to heal the hurt, restore what was lost, and bring purpose to Job’s later life.

John 10:10 (NASB) reads, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came so that they would have life, and have it abundantly.” The Lord authors life and life abundant. When bad things happen, God will not abandon you in it.

If you feel disappointed or angry toward God, get it out! Talk it out to God in prayer or even write Him a letter. List out your doubts, anger, questions, and disappointments. Then, ask God to speak to you about your offenses against Him. Ask Him to heal you and reveal Himself to you.

I just stumbled across this devotional today. It’s amazing how Job was so faithful.
