Jesus Has Already Been There—Two2Grow, Thursday, October 29

“When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.” John 10:4 NIV
Jesus is our Shepherd, and we are his sheep. Chapter 10 of the Gospel of John speaks powerfully about this, and I recommend that you read verses 1–21. One thing that stands out is today’s verse, which says, “he goes ahead of them.” That means that whatever we are facing today, Jesus has already been there because he has gone before us.
It is very reassuring and faith-building to say to yourself, “Jesus has already been here.”
Since he has already been where we are right now, there is a way even when it looks impossible. There is a solution to every problem and an answer to every question. As we listen to his voice, he will give us the wisdom and direction we need.
Since our Shepherd has gone ahead of us, that also means that Jesus has already defeated every wolf that we will encounter along the way. There is no predator that he doesn’t know about. Our Shepherd also knows every pitfall, every trap, and every sharp stone, and he will direct our steps so that we don’t get hurt or stuck.
We are not alone, and we are not left to our own capabilities to make the best of the situation. We are sheep. We look to our Shepherd. He will take care of us because he is faithful.
Pray this over yourself and your loved ones:
Jesus, thank you for being my Shepherd and for going ahead of me. I trust you to give me the wisdom and direction I need, to show me the right path, to protect me against all evil, and to bring me out into your abundant life. Amen.
