Trust the Master Builder—Two2Grow, Saturday, September 26
“But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” 2 Chronicles 15:7 NIV
Europe has many large, old cathedrals made of stone. Often, they took hundreds of years to complete. The cathedral in the city where we once lived took nearly 300 years to finish. A mason could spend their entire working life building a cathedral that they knew they would never see completed.
Imagine being a stonemason, working away at a block of stone. That would take patience and vision, knowing that you are building for the future and that your small contribution is part of something much larger and lasting. The mason had to trust that the Master Builder had a plan and that their work was not in vain.
This should encourage us, since often the tasks God assigns to us can feel like cutting away at a granite block. Staying home with kids, sharing the gospel with someone who doesn’t listen, going to a dreary 9-to-5 job, volunteering when we are already tired, tithing our hard-earned money, resisting temptation, and so on. At times, we might wonder if it makes any difference or if we will ever see the fullness of God’s plan.
Take courage! Trust the Master Builder. What He has told you to do fits His plan. You may never see the full picture, but your faithfulness is not in vain. Your work will be rewarded.
And the impact is not just for you. Your faithfulness and persistence can generate praise to God in the lives of others.
I repeat today’s verse: “But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”
Father, thank You for giving me an assignment in Your plan for the world. Help me to be persistent and not give up. I trust You today for grace and strength to stay at it. Amen.
