Jesus Will Make You Become—Two2Grow, June 17

“Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” Mark 1:17 NKJV
A world-renowned evangelist once visited the church I was part of. I had never heard him preach before, so I asked one of the church leaders what it was like to listen to him. She said that when you hear him preach the gospel, it is so wonderful that you want to get saved all over again.
Most of us are not traveling the world and preaching the gospel to large crowds, but we are still called to share the good news of Jesus with the people around us.
When Jesus called His disciples, He said that He would "make them become fishers of men." Notice the emphasis on how they had to be trained by Jesus to win the lost. It did not come automatically for them, and it does not come automatically for us. We need to let Jesus transform us into fishers of men.
It all begins with developing a heart for the lost, and you do that by spending time with Jesus. As you fellowship with Him, you allow God's love and compassion to fill you to the point that you begin to desire reaching those who do not yet know the Lord.
When the love of God burns within you, it will help you overcome any shyness or sense of awkwardness and move you to reach out to those who need Jesus.
This year, the church staff set "God goals"—things we wanted to accomplish in our walk with God during 2026. One of my goals was to become more active in evangelism and reach people beyond the church walls. I hope many of us will make that a goal this year and in the years to come.
Jesus, I ask You to make me a fisher of people. Fill me with Your love and compassion, and equip me with Your Word. Lead me to people who need You, and make me bold enough to reach out to them. Amen.
