Power & Authority // Part 2

Speaker:
Passage: Luke 9:1-2
Service Type:
Then Jesus called together the Twelve (apostles) and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases, and He sent them out to announce and preach the kingdom of God and to bring healing. /// Luke 9:1-2 (AMP)

Did you know that Jesus appointed 70 others and sent them out two by two:

Whenever you go into a town and they receive and accept and welcome you, eat what is set before you: and heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘the kingdom of God has come close to you.’ /// Luke 10:8-9 (AMP)

You are ambassadors of the kingdom of God. The rules that apply to ambassadors apply to you: wherever you go, kingdom rules and authority follows you. You have been given authority to enforce the will of the kingdom of God. And, you have diplomatic immunity in that you are not under the authority of the kingdom of darkness but are under the authority of the kingdom of God.

We are in war time. Most embassies shutter during war and the ambassadors come home and soldiers are dispatched. But, in the kingdom of God the embassy of God stays open during our war with the kingdom of darkness. Soldiers are not sent in to do the battle – the ambassadors are the soldiers! We are combatant ambassadors in our contact with the kingdom of darkness. We are diplomatic ambassadors to those who don’t know God.

We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. /// 2 Corinthians 5:20 (NIV)

Do you see the difference? We war against the kingdom of darkness and are diplomatic to those who are not in our kingdom! Those who we encounter who are not in the kingdom of God we seek to recruit into our kingdom. All of those we encounter who are not in the kingdom of God are captive to the kingdom of darkness whether they realize it or not. Many have been deceived by the propaganda of darkness.  We are called to share the offer of forgiveness and reconciliation from the kingdom of God. The captives are not our enemy! We are ambassadors to them. There are manifestations of being under the authority of the kingdom of God. I want to speak about one of those today: healing.

Healing is evidence of the arrival of the kingdom of God!

How many times when speaking to His disciples about bringing the kingdom of God did Jesus say that the coming of the kingdom brings healing? So many times! When the kingdom of God takes control, healing is evident!

Last week we learned that we encounter problems when we confuse power and authority, and believe that power is the answer to every problem. While power is nice, we need to understand that to see a kingdom manifest, you need the authority of that kingdom to manifest. Satan uses power but seeks authority. If he combines his power with authority given him by people, he can rule and imprison those people.

In war, we will see examples of the power of Satan. He will attack people. He has many weapons he uses but the goal is to ensnare people in prisons of depression, oppression, sickness, endless lack, etc. But remember, he seeks authority. So, his desire is to get you to give up authority and succumb to his power. If that is done, he obtains power and authority. Jesus gives His disciples power AND authority. If you are under the authority of the kingdom Jesus rules, then you can have constant access to His power.

It doesn’t matter what manifestations of power Satan uses against you, God maintains authority!

What does this mean? It means that even if you are sick, you are healed! The power of Satan must subject itself to the authority of Jesus! It will happen! But, if God’s people give up on God’s authority over sickness, then they will remain ill and feel as if they are under Satan’s authority. You are healed by the stripes of Jesus! Authority to bring sickness into your life has been taken from Satan.

Now you might say “I love the Lord and believe what you say, so why am I still sick?” One thing is certain: it is not because the power of God failed in your instance. If God’s authority is allowing a battle in your life, then it has to do with your character and not your failure! If you hang onto God’s authority over your life, you will see the manifestations of the kingdom of God occur and healing is one of those!
