Navigating Through Uncertain Times // Part 1
Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people. /// Proverbs 14:34
As a nation, we are going through some trying times. Events have happened which have released much unrest and turmoil. Our nation is in pain and pain causes fear to spread and anger to surface. Injustice must be dealt with and inequities must be addressed. Where do we look to find real solutions for these issues? The answer is found in the Body of Christ. Why? Because the Body of Christ possesses the Spirit of God and the Word of God. Love, justice, truth -all these are products of a relationship with God. What makes it more interesting is that the answers are found in a body that is very diverse in its makeup racially, economically, educationally, etc. How does this group which is as diverse as the culture around it foster unity instead of division? Because this group is first and foremost people of the Kingdom of Jesus and people of the Book. The body of Christ has a unique power residing within it:
Individual members may be black, white, immigrant, rich, poor, educated or not. While they are not blind to the problems such differences bring, they rally around the King of their life and exalt His word above all else! They are part of a kingdom which has as its very core an absolute that causes all else within that kingdom to operate efficiently and compassionately:
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you. /// Psalm 89:14
Righteousness is revealed through the Spirit of God and the Word of God. While each one of us are humans – we have characteristics, history, likes and dislikes, we make decisions based upon the Word of God working in conjunction with the Spirit of God. This is the factor that brings us into a state that the world needs now so desperately:
Where there is unity around righteousness, then peace and love and healing are possible. Remember what the word of God says?
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. /// 2 Chronicles 7:14
Healing – which we so desperately need right now as a nation – is a product of the Body of Christ being what it is called to be: Kingdom of God people when it is popular and when it is not. People of the Book whether it is popular or unpopular. We are so different. Just like the culture around us. We have different backgrounds, experiences, challenges. Yet, healing is possible. Prosperity is possible. Justice is possible. Equity is possible. But, only within the confines of a body whose foundation is the righteousness of God. Martin Luther King, Jr. quoted a verse from the book of Amos when speaking of what God is looking for from believers.
There is no conflict between God’s justice and His love. There is not conflict between righteousness and compassion. Justice is a product of love and righteousness is a component of compassion. We must remember that the body of Christ holds the answer to the problems we see around us. We must be the uncompromising Body – ready to acknowledge wrong, ready to repent, ready to love, ready to minister, ready to obey the Word of God. In doing so, we will lead this culture to a revelation of God.
It is time to get rid of all prejudice, pride, unrighteous anger, and dependence upon the philosophy of this world and return to the Word of God.
For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. /// 2 Timothy 1:7
