Christ Before Housekeeping

When my husband and I first began attending church, we were desperate. We were at such a low we never considered the idea we needed to clean up our lives before we started a relationship with the Lord. There was too much to clean up!

Christ said, “Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink” in John 7:35, NASB. When you are thirsty, you do not delay in getting a drink. You get a drink! Yet many people, when they KNOW they need Christ, spend a lot of time waiting to clean up some part of their life.

Yet, if a person would just come to Christ, Christ will do the housecleaning for them! As you walk with the Lord, He has a way of breaking the mess off of you. He empowers you to let go of destructive coping mechanisms. He replaces bad habits with good habits. He convicts you to spend your time, talent, and resources in righteous, loving ways. Trying to get “right” or clean up before coming to the Lord is backward. You need the power and the love of Christ, His forgiveness, and the Holy Spirit to renew you.

If you are waiting to come to Christ or to show up at church until you get your life in order, please stop waiting. Show up to church, open your bible, pray, and get right with Christ FIRST. Then He can do the work of reordering your heart, renewing your mind, and cleaning up your life.
