Rejoice Always—Two2Grow, Wednesday, November 4

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” Philippians 4:4 NIV

It is easy to rejoice when we are happy. When all is well and life is good. Driving in a well-functioning car after eating a satisfying meal, watching a beautiful sunset as you drive along toward some place you look forward to going to. Then it is easy to rejoice and to encourage other people: “Rejoice in the Lord!”

But the Bible says “always”. There are days when the car is broken, funds are low, and hail is damaging our roof. That is also a day to rejoice. Can it even be done?

Well, Paul wrote this letter inspired by the Spirit when he was in prison! So it can be done. Not in our own strength, but we are not left orphans – the Holy Spirit is our helper.

The Holy Spirit will help us to lift our eyes from our circumstances and fix them on Jesus.
By the power of the Spirit, with our eyes fixed on Jesus, we can rejoice in the Lord always.

Today’s verse doesn’t say we need to rejoice in the circumstances, but in the circumstances we can rejoice in the Lord. Look to Jesus. He is amazing, and in our time of need, He is always the answer. When sick – He is the Healer. When in bondage – He is the Deliverer. When we have bills we cannot pay – He is our Provider.

When we look to Him and see how wonderful He is, and how mighty He is to save, we have every reason to rejoice – especially when life is less than perfect. That’s when we really need a Saviour, and we have one!!

So let's rejoice!
