Loving God for God’s Sake—Two2Grow, Monday, October 24
Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.” Psalm 27:4 NIV

If there is one characteristic that stands out to me as I study the life of King David, it is that he truly loved God. In all his imperfections and despite his grave sins, he had a passion for the Lord.

Today’s verse brings out three things in particular about David’s desire:

“One thing…this only”: David was single-minded in his devotion to God. He didn’t have one foot in God’s kingdom and one foot in the world.

“Dwell in the house of the Lord”: David wanted an ongoing personal relationship with God. He didn’t just want a single encounter but to dwell in God’s presence.

“Gaze on the beauty of the Lord”: David wanted God for God’s sake. He didn’t seek God for the benefits and blessings He would give him. He wasn’t satisfied with a move of God’s hand; David wanted to encounter God’s face.

Today, let these truths shape our walk with God, too.

Father, I want to be single-minded in my devotion to You. I want a deeper relationship with You, and I want to love You for who You are. Amen.
