Follow Your Heart—Two2Grow, Friday, October 9
“My heart says of you, ‘Seek his face!’ Your face, Lord, I will seek.” Psalm 27:8 NIV

There are many voices seeking to influence our actions and decisions. The most important thing is to listen to the voice of your heart. The Holy Spirit lives inside you and will direct your heart in the way you should go.

I had spent three years teaching daily at a school of theology. When the Lord led me to move on, I had time with the staff to say goodbye and pray. The person I had worked most closely with said, “Of everything you taught, the one thing I will always remember is how you always emphasized that we should follow our heart.” Over twenty years later, I still believe this is a key life principle.

The biblical understanding of the heart is not the physical, blood-pumping organ, nor is it simply giving in to a fleeting feeling. In the Bible, the heart is the center of our being—our HQ. The heart is where our mind, will, and emotions come together. That’s why the Bible speaks about believing with the heart, thinking with the heart, and acting with the heart. This is where the Holy Spirit dwells when we believe in Jesus.

I have found that many Christians are not in touch with their hearts. They just hurry through life, never taking time to quiet themselves before God through the Word, prayer, and worship. Decisions are made based on a myriad of other things rather than what their hearts are telling them.

Make a decision today to always follow the Holy Spirit speaking to your heart!

Much heartache could be avoided if believers didn’t violate their hearts. There would be more victories for God’s kingdom if God’s people started following the Spirit’s leading in their hearts.

Holy Spirit, you indwell my heart. Help me to be in touch with my heart so that I can follow your direction today. Amen.
