Out of Nothing—Two2Grow, Friday, October 2
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? 2My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1–2 NIV

We can learn from God’s people in the Old Testament what to do when we are in deep trouble and face obstacles much greater than ourselves: to remind ourselves of the greatness of God and especially that God is the Creator of the universe. This is a theme we see throughout the Old Testament, but we also see it in the New Testament.

So, in our problems and pain, we lift our eyes from our circumstances to the Creator. We remind ourselves that God created the world out of nothing. Think about that for a minute. Out of NOTHING!

Perhaps that “nothing” is what is staring you in the face. But God is not limited to what currently is. It doesn’t matter what we are facing today, even if it seems like there is nothing but fruitless chaos and darkness, God’s outbreathed, creative word brings a new beginning.

Take hope today. God is still the same, and His promise is that those who look to Him as Creator will never be turned away in shame (Ps 34:5).

We look to Him for a Word. Just one Word from the Creator God is enough.

Father in Heaven, I thank You for creating the world and giving me life. I pray that You will speak Your creative word over my life and my circumstances, to transform them into something that gives You glory. Amen.
