What to Do in the Gap Between Promise and Fulfillment—Two2Grow, Monday, September 28

“Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God.” Romans 4:20 NIV
Living in the gap between a promise from God and seeing its fulfillment can be a very trying time. We get excited as God speaks and gives us a glimpse of what is to come, perhaps a new opportunity in work or school, a relationship, a spiritual breakthrough, healing, a new home, or something else. We live off the excitement for some time, but as time goes on, we can start to lose hope.
We learn from Abraham what to do in the space between promise and fulfillment: he praised God. For many years, he held fast to God’s promise of having an offspring, and he was able to hold on because he gave glory to God.
Fill the time by magnifying God for who He is. If you find it difficult to start, begin with a praise psalm from the Book of Psalms, such as Psalm 145.
When Emelie and I had to believe God for the fulfillment of promises that looked humanly impossible, we took time as a couple to praise God together. Instead of speaking doubt and fear, we filled our mouths with praises to God.
Father, I glorify You today! Thank You for being faithful and true to Your promises. My eyes are on You today, and I know that You will come through for me.
