Choose to Trust— Two2Grow, Saturday, September 5
“Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, ‘Don’t be afraid; just believe.’” Mark 5:36 NIV

There have been many times in our lives when circumstances looked impossible, and we saw no human way out. Emelie and I looked at one another and said, “We chose to trust God.”

Living by faith begins with a conscious choice: I want to trust God no matter what. I refuse to let the world around me, my thoughts and feelings, my fears and insecurities, the opinions of others, and so on dictate how I’m going to live and what decisions I’m going to make. I make the promises of God and His faithfulness to fulfill them my lodestar that I use to navigate life.

In today’s text, Jairus had just gotten news that his daughter had died. Jesus overheard that, and note what He tells the father: “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” In other words, don’t let the current situation define your attitude and actions. Look beyond the bad report to Jesus, who has the final say.

It doesn’t mean we put our heads in the sand and deny reality. It means we bring our present reality to God and listen to what His Word says. Once we hear that, we choose to trust Him, even when everything else might speak to the contrary.

As I write this, the song “There Is Nothing Our God Can’t Do” comes to mind.

Why not listen to it right now and make the choice to trust God today? Picture all the challenges you are facing, bring them to God, and say, “I choose to trust You.”
