Interrupted by Glory—Two2Grow, Thursday, September 3
“Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!” Romans 11:33 NIV
The little word “Oh” in today’s Scripture says a lot. Paul has been writing about God and how He works out His plans in the world. It is very deep and sometimes complicated to fully understand, but then, in the midst of that, comes this exclamation that initiates a session of worship. The “Oh” is an emotional interjection that marks an encounter with God that leads to an outpouring of praise:
“Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! ‘Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?’ ‘Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them?’ For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.” (Romans 11:33–36)
Notice how Paul is overcome by the greatness and majesty of God.
It is fascinating to see how this moment of worship is spontaneous and breaks the flow of his writing. It shows us that the apostle has been interrupted by the glory of God, so he just had to stop what he was doing and worship God.
My prayer is that all of us will have these “Oh” moments today, where we get interrupted by the glory and greatness of God in such a way that we have no option but to stop whatever we are doing and just worship.
Father, You are amazing, and all You do is amazing. May I encounter You today in ways that lead me to spontaneous praise. Amen.
