God in Me Is Greater—Two2Grow, Thursday, August 20
“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4 NKJV
Every season of life comes with its own set of challenges. As a young student, the need to perform well in school, as well as being accepted by others, can be overwhelming. Once you graduate, the pressure comes from finding a job and doing well at it. Social responsibilities change; for many, it means raising and providing for a family or navigating singleness. Later in life, we might take on the burden of caring for elderly parents and relatives. And when you get older yourself, it comes with its own set of worries—What about my future? Will I be able to take care of myself? What about the future of my loved ones?
All this can make you feel very small and vulnerable. And the devil stands ready to attack and amplify every worry and pressure that is already present.
Regardless of what season of life you are in, no matter what attacks the devil brings, it brings great strength to know that God in you is greater than everything. You don’t have to look for power and direction somewhere outside yourself; turn to Jesus, who by the Spirit lives inside of you.
When you face a challenge larger than yourself, it really helps to remind yourself who lives on the inside of you. I often repeat the phrase, “He who is in me is greater,” in my mind when I face problems. It strengthens my faith.
I encourage you to name your challenge, picture it as an entity in front of you, point to it, and say, “God in me is greater!”
Father, I thank You that You in me are greater than anything that life or the devil can bring against me. Open my eyes to Your power and strengthen my faith so that I can live faithfully to You today and every day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
