Confidence in the Battle—Two2Grow, Thursday, August 13
”Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.” Psalm 27:3 NIV
I heard a story about a missionary couple who served in a very dangerous country that had a lot of gang violence. God used them to lead the son of a gang boss to the Lord. That didn’t make the gang dad happy. One day, some of the goons knocked on the couple’s door and told them that they would kill them unless they went back home. To which they replied, “You cannot threaten a Christian with thoughts of heaven.”
When our hope is anchored in God and in our coming resurrection, fear will lose its power over us. Because ultimately, fear is driven by death.
What comes through very powerfully in today’s text is that David could be bold in the face of the most dangerous and threatening situations of war and violence, not in his own strength but because he knew his God. The psalm begins:
“The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1)
Why don’t you declare that out loud right now? Remind yourself of who the Lord is, and because of Him, no fear will lord it over you.
Father, I thank You that You defeated death for me. Today, I will not fear, no matter what comes at me, because You are my light, my salvation, and my stronghold. Amen.
