Guard Your Hunger—Two2Grow, Saturday, August 8
You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.” Matthew 5:6 The Message

There is always more of God for us to have. Our walk with God is meant to move us deeper and deeper into His presence. God never says, “Stop, no further,” in our pursuit of Him.
Rather, He beckons us by the Holy Spirit to press on, to continue our quest for more of Him.

Sometimes, like a good parent, Jesus will take a step back so that a small child will walk toward Him. But even in those moments when we might not sense the closeness of the Lord as we are used to, that is just another invitation to draw closer—to set our eyes on Him and move toward a fresh encounter.

One of our biggest enemies is the desire settle, to think to ourselves that we have reached a comfortable and pleasant place in God and are no longer hungry for more.

Today’s paraphrase of Jesus’ words in the Beatitudes captures the important truth that having “a good appetite for God” is what we are after. Anything that goes contrary to this, that fights against our appetite for God, is something we must resist.

Our hunger for God is a gift from God, so we will guard it fiercely.

Father, I want to continue to hunger for more of You. Reveal to me areas in my life that work against my pursuit of You, and give me the strength to change. Amen.
