Heaven's Army— Two2Grow, Saturday July 18

And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, LORD, so that he may see.” Then the LORD opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 2 Kings 6:17 NIV
I vividly remember waking up in the middle of the night while we were serving in Africa. Something was happening neaby. Shattered glass. Shouting. Chaos. We immediately knew something was wrong. It wasn't peaceful. We prayed, and the presence of God filled the room to the point that Emelie and I knew we would be okay no matter what happened and we could go back to sleep. The next morning, we discovered that a large group of robbers had ransacked the house next door.
In today's passage, Elisha's prophetic insight had made the hostile Aramean king angry, so he sent an army to capture him. When Elisha's servant saw the army, he ran to warn the prophet. But Elisha responded:
"Don't be afraid," the prophet answered. "Those who are with us are more than those who are with them" (2 Kings 6:16).
Yet Elisha did more than comfort his servant with words. He prayed that God would open his eyes to see the Lord's protective army.
Today, as you serve the Lord, you too can know that God's army is with you. Like Elisha's servant, you may sometimes feel alone in the battle, but that's only a feeling. With the eyes of your heart, you can catch a glimpse of God's power, and His presence will fill you with peace and strength. It all starts with prayer.
Father, I pray that You will give me peace in the midst of the battle. Open my eyes to see that You are with me and that Your power is greater than every enemy I face today. Amen.
