Tuning Our Heart — Two2Grow, Monday, July 13
“They shall come with weeping, And with supplications I will lead them. I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters, In a straight way in which they shall not stumble; For I am a Father to Israel, And Ephraim is My firstborn.” Jeremiah 31:9 NKJV

There was an elderly man of God in one of the churches I pastored who often referred to today's text by saying, "God leads as we go praying." He had grasped the connection between action, prayer, and being led by the Holy Spirit.

Prayer means that we tune our hearts to God. It's like tuning a radio to receive a station's signal. Sometimes it happens quickly, and the signal comes through loud and clear. Other times, it takes a while before you find it.

Prayer is the language of those who know they are dependent on God for everything. Only fools think they can do life on their own. I use the word fool not as an insult, but in the biblical sense of denying God (see Psalm 14:1).

There is no lasting fruit without prayer. We can run around, stay busy, and do many things, and for a while it may seem as though we've accomplished a lot. But over time, if our lives are not built on God's will, the foundation will begin to crack, and things will start to fall apart. It may be our relationships, our careers, our emotional health, or our finances. Every area of our lives needs to be soaked in prayer, continually asking God for discernment and direction.

Father, I turn to You today. Show me Your will in every area of my life so that I may please You and bear fruit for Your glory. Amen.
