Not a Hired Shepherd—Two2Grow, June 10
The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. John 10:12–13 NIV

One night while I was sleeping, I had a dream that really scared me. I dreamed that someone was trying to hurt one of my daughters. I woke up feeling very upset and anxious. I woke Mikael so we could pray together.

As we were praying, Jesus spoke to me. It was not an audible voice, but rather a strong thought that did not originate from me, and I knew it was Jesus. He said, “I am not a hired shepherd.”

That was all. But it was all I needed. With that word came an amazing peace. Jesus is not a hired shepherd. He would not abandon the sheep and run away if a wolf came. Even if the devil wanted to harm some of those dearest to me, I did not need to be afraid because Jesus would be there. He would fight for me. He would fight for my girls. He is not a hired shepherd.

I did not need to worry. And neither do you.

Our worrying will not change anything. Instead, let us entrust the lives of our loved ones into the loving hands of the Shepherd and know that He is the owner of the sheep. He will not abandon us in times of danger. We belong to Him, and He takes good care of His belongings.

Jesus, I thank You that You are not a hired shepherd. You are the owner of the sheep. I belong to You. I do not need to be afraid. Thank You for fighting my battles.
